Sheds Permits
SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A completed permit application. permit application (PDF)
- Shed Affidavit
- Plat of survey showing the location and size of the proposed shed highlighted.
- List all materials and a drawing showing the construction and hardware of the shed. (including sizes and dimensions) used, if not a kit
- Provide a copy of the brochure or spec sheets for kits or prefab sheds.
Zoning Requirements
- The shed must be a minimum of ten (10) feet from the rear of the house and six (6) feet away from the side and rear property line.
- Minimum street-side setback, 25 feet.
- Maximum height is (24) feet from the finished grade to the top of the structure or no taller than the principal structure, whichever is less.
- Shed cannot be located on an easement or front yard.
Construction Requirements
It must be indicated how the shed or gazebo structure is supported (i.e. piers, slab, or properly supported deck).
- Indicate how the shed structure is supported (i.e. piers, slab)
- Piers must have a minimum depth of 42 inches. The slab must be a minimum of 5” thick and a minimum of 4 inches of compacted gravel.
- ½ “bolts not greater than 6’ apart on center. No more than 12” from the end of the plate. 2 bolts per plate minimum.
- A gravel base with code-approved tie-downs is an acceptable foundation.
- All wood in contact with concrete must be treated in accordance with AWPA or decay-resistant wood.
- Cinder blocks may not be used for the foundation.

- Call (847) 459-2620 twenty-four (24) hours in advance for scheduling all inspections.
Construction hours are Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday is prohibited.
Homeowners Association
If you belong to a Homeowners Association, a letter of permission for installation is required by the Village if required by the Association. Ridgefield Homeowners Association does not allow sheds.
