Preventing Package Delivery Theft

Here are some things you can do to help prevent package delivery theft:

  • Be sure to sign up for real-time alerts regarding package transit and delivery.
  • Arrange for a delivery that requires a signature.
  • Have packages delivered to a location operated by the carrier. For example, when dealing with UPS or FedEx, use their physical store locations for delivery.
  • Have the package delivered to your place of employment.
  • Have the package delivered to a stay-at-home neighbor’s house.
  • Specify with the carrier where exactly you want the package to be dropped off (back door, side door, etc.).
  • Consider the use of cameras.
  • Schedule the delivery for a specific date. If you think you may not be home, re-route or reschedule the delivery for a time when you will be home.
  • Talk to your neighbors about picking up the package for you, once you receive notice that it was delivered.
  • When using Amazon, consider having your package delivered to your vehicle. They can deliver to more than seven million eligible General Motors vehicle owners that have an active OnStar account.
