Residents may dispose of expired or unused non-regulated or over-the-counter medications and sharps (needles) on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Wheeling Police Department, 1 Community Boulevard.
Residents need to leave their medications in the original containers (to identify contents) and mark out their personal information. Sharps need to be placed in a rigid container with a carefully sealed lid. Acceptable containers are available through the Community Development Health Officer.
No over-the-counter liquid medications will be accepted. No commercial or institutional waste will be accepted.
Sharps only, may also be dropped off in the sharps kiosk at the Fire Department, 499 S. Milwaukee Avenue, in approved containers. Additionally, effective June 1, 2019, curbside residents may dispose of sharps (must be placed into rigid, sealed and puncture resistant container) through the Waste Management (WM) At Your Door Special Collection Service.
