Refuse Services Overview
The Village of Wheeling has renewed its collection
franchise for residential solid waste, recyclables and yard
waste with Waste Management. The new franchise agreement
utilizes heavy duty wheeled carts beginning June 1, 2004.
Each single-family home will receive a 96-gallon capacity cart
for trash and a 64-gallon capacity cart for recyclables
unless a smaller size is requested.
Requests for a smaller size garbage container (65-gallon or
35-gallon) and/or a smaller size recycling container (35-gallon)
or for special service upgrades or needs should be made to Waste
Management at (800) 796-9696. An informational flier has
been included in the March/April Village Views newsletter. To
download this flier please click here.
Please note all refuse carts/containers must be removed from
curbside by 8am the day after your scheduled collection day.
If residents observe scavengers
(person or company) other than Waste Management collecting
or removing any refuse or recycling from any property,
please contact the Police Department (Non-Emergency) at
847-459-2194.
Waste Management Northwest continues to furnish regular weekly
curbside collection service for every single family and
multi-family residential dwelling unit in the Village.
Collection service includes system waste, some bulk items, and
recyclable materials. Landscape waste is picked up on the
same day as regular collection service from April 1 - November
30.
Here is some additional information regarding the new
contract:
- Yard waste may placed in either 35 gallon containers marked
clearly with a red "X" or placed in biodegradable Kraft paper
bags. Please DO NOT use plastic bags.
-
Bundled brush is collected if tied with twine or rope and if
the
brush is no longer than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. Limbs which
exceed 3 inches in diameter are not collected.
- To exchange your refuse cart for a different size please call
1-800-796-9696.
- Your old refuse containers may be used for yard waste purposes
if marked clearly with a red "X". Place your old refuse

you want Waste Management to recycle your old containers.
- Residents may keep their orange recycling bins.
However, if you place it at curbside after May 31, 2004 Waste
Management will take your bin..
- There is no need to write your name or address on your new
containers as they may be identified by a registered serial
number. If your container is damaged, it may be
replaced at no charge.
