Frequently Violated Laws

Current surveys report there has been a dramatic increase of tobacco and alcohol use by youth, (tobacco use almost doubled from 1991 to 1995 and 33% of High School youth reported "binge" drinking).  Based on these alarming numbers, the Wheeling Police Department has taken the initiative in preventing our youth from becoming just another statistic.  As part of this initiative, we are asking parents and citizens to review the
Village Code  regarding issues of possession of tobacco and alcohol by minors, curfew and unlawful assembly.

Possession and/or purchase of tobacco by minors prohibited
Unlawful purchase or possession of alcohol
Unlawful assembly by underage persons
Responsibility of owner or occupant of any premises for unlawful assembly by underage persons
Contributing to delinquency of child
Liability of parent or legal guardian of minor offender
Curfew
