The Board of Health has general supervision of the interests
of the people of the Village. The Board cooperates with the
Department of Health of the state in enforcing the rules and
regulations for control of communicable diseases promulgated by
the department, and such other rules and regulations of the
United States, state, county, and Village as may be related to
the sanitation and health of the Village. The Board of Health of
the Village shall have authority to make recommendations to the
President and Board of Trustees for the passage of ordinances,
as they may from time to time deem necessary for the
preservation and improvement of the public health and for the
suppression of disease. The Board of Health also gives to the
Village authorities such professional advice and information as
may be required or requested to preserve the public health. The

The purpose of the Human Rights Commission is to promote and
encourage mutual respect, cooperation and
understanding between the diverse peoples living
within the Village of Wheeling. The Commission also
acts to safeguard the lawful preservation of the
human rights of all citizens as guaranteed by the
State and Federal Constitutions, so as to provide
all individuals with an equal opportunity to grow,
participate and share to the best of their ability
in our economic, educational, political, social and
judicial systems. The Human Rights Commission’s
seven members are appointed to two year terms by the
Village President and Board of Trustees. One
way the Commission promotes better relations between
the
Village’s diverse racial, ethnic, religious, cultural and
social groups is to speak to local groups concerning
bigotry. Read more about their "That's
Not Right" presentation
