Judy Abruscato, Trustee
Length of
Service...21 years, Board of Trustees.
Birthplace...Chicago.
Family...Lived in Wheeling for the past 42 years with my
husband Mario; we have two children, Anthony Abruscato and
Valerie Gross (Scott), and two grandchildren, Nicholas, Age 12
and Jackson, Age 7.
Employment...Vice President / Branch Manager of Corus Bank
(formerly the 1st National Bank of Wheeling) in Wheeling for the
past 30 years.
I’ve lived in Wheeling...the last 42 years.
Hobbies/Interests...I enjoy working with people, going to
the theatre, and above all, being with my family.
I ran for public office to...Give back to my community and
help it become a wonderful place to live.
Before I was a trustee, I was...Chairperson of the
Wheeling Not-for-Profit 4th of July Organization; Wheeling Parent Teacher Organization;
Wheeling High School Instrumental League (Treasurer and Public
Relations Person); Wheeling Lioness Club (First President);
Wheeling Historical Society (Secretary).
The most important thing I do as a trustee is...Work for
the people and the business community.
I would like people to remember me for...Understanding,
gentleness, and kindness.
The accomplishments I’m most proud of...Development of
Milwaukee Avenue, Uniform Refuse Collection, and Bringing
Special Events to the Residents of Wheeling..
In the next 10 years, I see Wheeling changing in the following
ways...In the next ten years, I see the Village developing its
retail sector. With the development of the corner of Milwaukee
and Dundee, I believe this will be the beginning of a GREAT
downtown.
Person who has influenced me the most throughout my life... The
biggest influence in my life was being in the Salvation Army and
being brought up by my grandmother. Both taught me hard work,
dependability, honesty, and giving to others.
When I’m not working, I like to...Spend time with my
family and friends.
My idea of a great day is...Being able to help my
community.
The one thing few people know about me is...I always
wanted to be a Salvation Army officer.
I wish I had more time to...Spend with my family.
People who know me well say I’m...Always working.
My favorite quotation is..."The life given us by
nature is short, but the memory of a well-spent life is eternal."
Trustee Abruscato was acknowledged as an Illinois Woman of
Achievement in March, 2001 by the State of Illinois 92nd
General Assembly. She also received the Wheeling
Senior Commission Award in 2001 for Outstanding
Volunteer Service and is recipient of the Wheeling High
School Band Recognition Award in 2004 for her
generous support and ongoing dedication.
