Registration for Session 1-2009 of the Wheeling SeniorNet Learning Center Computer Classes will be held Monday thru Friday from 9am to 4pm at the Senior Pavilion Center, 199 N. First Street, Wheeling, IL. Classes begin on January 9, 2009.

Courses offered are:  Beginners, Computer Uses, Digital Camera, E-mail and Internet, Seminars (Printing, Scanning, Shortcuts, File Extensions, Address Labels, Using Help, and Task Launcher), and Word Processing.  The individual class fee is $40.00 which includes all class materials. The first Seminar taken costs $10.00, with additional Seminars costing $5.00 each.

Courses are step-by-step, “hands-on” courses taught and coached by senior volunteers. Each class is limited to eight students. Day and evening classes are 2 hours per week, for 8 weeks. Wheeling Senior center also offers open lab time 
(twice a week) where students can use computers to practice their skills.

The SeniorNet program is a national membership organization; membership is encouraged but not required.  Annual fee for membership is $40.00.

BEGINNERS (BASICS)

This is a 8 session course meeting once a week to teach basic skills needed to advance into computer usage. It teaches proper use of the mouse and keyboard and how to open programs and properly start and shut down your computer, how to copy text and move text into new locations, work with menus and other skills beginners can find confusing. It is designed to help you feel comfortable using your computer.

WINDOWS XP

What is new in Windows?  How do you manage Windows?  How does Windows work to allow me to use programs?  These are all questions answered in this 8 week course on learning how to take control of your computer instead of vice-versa.

WORD PROCESSING (WRITING WITH WORD)

This is an 8 week course meeting once a week for an in debth study of the capabilities of Microsoft word, a word processor that covers formatting, correspondence, flyers, banners, clip art, mailing list and labels, and much more.  If you can do it on a typewriter you can do it better with MS Word. 

PRACTICE - OPEN LAB

Open Lab - any current or formal student is welcome to join us during open Lab times. During this time, an instructor is present for any questions, issues or one-on-one a student might need.

This is also an excellent chance to simply get out of the house for quite time!

INTERNET & EMAIL:

This is an 8 session course meeting once a week to introduce you to the joys of the World Wide Web (WWW)  and Email.  How to find things using search engines, how to reply to, forward, and originate email messages, what you need to get started, how you connect to the WWW are all among the many skills you will learn.
