2020 Longtree Basin Expansion - Project Update
The Longtree Basin storm water management project is set to resume construction the week of July 13th.
During the initial staging of the project, crews revealed a portion of underground infrastructure along Hintz Road that had not been previously identified, which resulted in a delay. The Design Engineer evaluated the existing pipe alignment and storm sewer outflow capacity and submitted revised plans to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) for approval. The Village has now received the necessary construction permit and the contractor will be mobilizing equipment and commencing work associated with the Longtree Basin.
Village staff and the consulting engineers have received and appreciate the numerous concerns expressed by adjacent property owners regarding the loss of trees. The Village has recognized the need to modify engineering plans described above as an opportunity to reexamine the construction methodology of the project. The design engineers have re-routed specific storm sewer pipe sections to increase distance from various trees, and have worked with the contractor to use smaller soil excavation and removal equipment within confined areas of the project. The effort will result in the saving of twenty additional trees within the same area.
The Village of Wheeling appreciates your understanding and patience.
