Investigations Division

The Investigations Division is responsible for the investigating of the most serious crimes that occur in the Village of Wheeling. The Investigations Division is broken down into two units, the Investigations Unit and the Special Operations Unit. Both of these units work in conjunction with each other but are assigned different tasks. The Investigations Unit investigates crimes such as burglaries, robberies, homicides, death investigations as well as financial crimes such as identity theft. They also perform background investigations of all civilian and police applicants who are being considered for employment. The Investigations Unit is responsible for maintaining professional relationships with other local Police Departments as well as Federal Agencies. The Detectives in the Investigations Unit work on a Monday through Friday schedule. Detectives are scheduled to work the day-shift and the afternoon-shift. A Detective is scheduled to be on-call overnight during the midnight-shift and during the weekend providing coverage every day around the clock.
  1. Evidence/Property Custodian

    The Evidence Room is staffed by one civilian, Evidence / Property Officer Peter Rodgers.

  2. Investigations Unit

    The Investigations Unit handled 708 cases in 2014.

  3. Special Operations Unit

    The Special Operations Unit is comprised of 1 Sergeant and 3 Tactical Officers working in a plain clothes capacity.

  4. Youth Division

    The school liaison program provides full-time Police Officers.
